Parent-Child Interaction Therapy – Therapist Training
The Parent-Child Interaction Therapy Therapist Training Program is a comprehensive, year-long training package that includes: (a) 5 days (40 hours) of on-site training; (b) over 1 year (52 hours) of weekly training/consultation; and (c) review and feedback of up to six, video-recorded sessions with your PCIT clients.
The Initial Training (three days) focuses on the first phase of PCIT (Child-Directed Interaction). The Follow-Up Training (two days) is scheduled 8-10 weeks later and targets the second phase of the PCIT Intervention (Parent-Directed Interaction).
The PCIT workshops include a wide variety of strategies (interactive presentations, demonstrations, training videos, discussions, feedback) to help trainees understand the fundamental elements of PCIT. The workshops also include frequent skills training and practice of PCIT techniques, including live practice with children.
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy – Level I Training
The PCIT Level I Training is designed for practitioners who have completed the PCIT Therapist Training Program and are Certified PCIT Therapists by PCIT International. The purpose of this training is to prepare practitioners to be able to train others within their agency to become PCIT Certified Therapists.
The Level I Training Course is a minimum of 8 hours, typically offer APA-approved CEUs, and cover the following general topics:
- Methods of training others in PCIT
- Procedures for maintaining fidelity to the model
- Evaluating and teaching coaching skills
- Methods for determining competencies in trainees
Additional requirements for the Level I Training include:
- At least once monthly consultation (usually in group format of 6-8 Level 1 Trainer candidates) via phone or web-conferencing with a Certified Master Trainer or Level 2 Trainer
- Video review of two (2) key PCIT sessions with written feedback from a Certified Trainer
- Case experience in supervising a trainee while under consultation from a Certified Trainer
Prerequisites for this courses include being an independently licensed mental health provider, a psychology predoctoral intern, or a psychology postdoctoral fellow who is a Certified Therapist by PCIT International, and has completed at least 4 PCIT cases to graduation criteria.
Teacher-Child Interaction Training – Essential Training
The Essential TCIT Training Package is a comprehensive training for professionals who are not certified in PCIT.
The Teacher-Child Interaction Training Essential Training Program is a year-long training package that includes: (a) 5 days (40 hours) of on-site training; (b) over 1 year (52 hours) of weekly training/consultation; and (c) review and feedback of up to six, video-recorded sessions with your TCIT teachers/students.
The Initial TCIT Training (three days) focuses on the first phase of TCIT (Child-Directed Interaction). The Follow-Up Training (two days) is typically scheduled 8-10 weeks later will target the second phase of the TCIT Program (Teacher-Directed Interaction).
The TCIT workshops include a wide variety of strategies (interactive presentations, demonstrations, mock classrooms, training videos, discussions, feedback) to help trainees understand the fundamental elements of TCIT. The workshops also include frequent skills training and practice of TCIT techniques, including live practice with children.
Teacher-Child Interaction Training – Advanced Training
The Advanced TCIT Training Package is an abbreviated training for professionals who are already certified in PCIT by PCIT International.
The Teacher-Child Interaction Training Advanced Training Program is a comprehensive, year-long training package that includes: (a) 3 days (24 hours) of on-site training; (b) over 1 year (52 hours) of weekly training/consultation; and (c) review and feedback of up to six, video-recorded sessions with your TCIT teachers/students.
The Advanced TCIT Workshop includes a wide variety of strategies (interactive presentations, demonstrations, mock classrooms, training videos, discussions, feedback) to help trainees understand the adaptation and implementation of TCIT. Similar to PCIT training, the Advanced TCIT Training includes frequent practice of TCIT techniques, including live practice with children.
PCIT Coding Workshop
The PCIT Coding Workshop is a 1-day Training Program that is designed for practitioners who have completed the PCIT Therapist Training Program and would like to receive additional coding practice using the Dyadic Parent-Child Interaction Coding System (DPICS).
This one-day workshop will focus exclusively on:
- Substantial coding practice with new videos
- Decisive coding techniques – tips to help differentiate between difficult codes
- Frequently Asked Questions
The PCIT Coding Workshop will use a variety of techniques (e.g., videos with subtitles, video transcripts, live coding, worksheets) to help enhance your DPICS skills.
